Carltonians Match Day Review v Western Bulldogs – ROUND 17

The Carltonians hosted “Junior Members Day” on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.

It was fantastic to see so many of our junior members thoroughly enjoying themselves throughout the day. Captain Carlton and Navy Nina came past the function and spent some time with our special junior guests with the Carlton colouring wall a big hit with the kids.

We thank our match day presenting partner Greg Hocking Elly Partners Williamstown for their support.

Carlton Assistant Coach John Barker addressed the function and provided an update on the playing group’s preparations as we head into the final phase of the season.

Carltonians Patron and Carlton Football Clubs greatest ever player John Nicholls addressed the room and stated how he was encouraged by the promising signs shown from our young players.

On field after a flying start to the first quarter the game turned into a scrappy affair with costly turnovers in defense directly resulting in Bulldog scoring opportunities.

Bryce Gibbs and Matthew Kreuzer were again Carlton’s best players with Matthew Wright our leading goal scorer with there majors.

Coach Brendan Bolton spoke about skill errors being costly in our game.

"I thought it was a scrappy game. There were a lot of fundamental skills errors, probably from both sides but particularly from us, particularly with some errors forward of centre and decision-making, which we missed with some opportunities to hit the scoreboard," Bolton said.

"I thought all of our players at times were a little bit scrappy, that's probably the best way to assess it.

"We had moments. I thought we started the game really well, we finished well, we had a crack late, we had some looks, in between it was scrappy."
