Carlton v Melbourne | Round 2

Carlton were left ruing a missed opportunity to notch our first win of the season against a strong Melbourne team at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.

Coach Brendan Bolton lamented a missed opportunity to notch up our first win of the season whilst highlighting the importance of our young players learning from the experience.

"That was one that got away," Bolton said.

"We have high expectations of this group, even though they are young, we know they're developing, we know they're learning but we got ourselves into a position at three-quarter time to win the game.

"But some errors hurt us and they got us on turnover in the last quarter.

"It's a really good learning opportunity but one that I know us as coaches, supporters and also players are really frustrated that we didn't get the result."

Star midfielder Patrick Cripps has come away from the match with a hairline fracture in his jaw after an incident with Melbourne midfielder Jordan Lewis.

This week our attention turns to our second home game of the season as we face our arch rival Essendon at the MCG on Sunday.

We are thrilled to announce former Carlton and Essendon players, Justin and Simon Madden as our special guests for the day. Carltonians Members and guests will hear from both Madden brothers as we tap into their sibling rivalry and respective careers, and hear their preview of the match ahead.

We are also pleased to host Carlton Football Club champion and Carltonians Patron, John Nicholls. John will be interviewed on stage, and will also be involved in the special induction of two Carltonians Life Members.

Our Round 3 presenting partner is Opal Security Australia, and we thank Mouhammed Moustafa for his generous support.
